- NO SMOKING in the Hospital, Please! -

(That means, even out on the roof!)

"CQ - CQ... this is Whiskey One Sugar Mike Hotel, W1SMH"... the Sturdy Memorial Hospital Amateur Radio Club Station. It's located at the Hospital and is set up to provide a base of operations in the event of a major disaster situation. It's equipped with HF, UHF and VHF equipment and is connected to the Hospital's Emergency Power System, so that it can continue to provide Emergency Communications Services in the event of a power loss. As history has shown with the Blizzard of "78" and other major storms, normal means of communication can fail quickly; that storm proved the need for this type of communications. The club also uses it for National and International DX Contests, which help to sharpen our communications skills and keep everyone familiar with the equipment. We'd like to thank the Sturdy Memorial Hospital staff for recognizing the value of the club and it's members and for providing us with this space for our equipment.
